To me, the best leaders put people first.
Not a position, their power, public perception or the need to be seen as the person in the room.
I have always tried to lead collaboratively by trusting experts to be experts, supporting their ideas, and giving talented people the space and resources to do their best work. I care about creating environments where talented people feel respected, supported, and empowered to contribute their best work.
"I don't like this"
Isn't feedback. It’s a statement. Good feedback should be honest, but it should also be productive, collaborative and solutions-oriented. Creative work is subjective, and personal tastes will not always align. I don't call myself a leader, but as a creative, I try never to react to work someone spent significant time creating without returning to the mission, identifying the goal and offering thoughtful direction that helps move the work forward.
I care deeply about inclusion because there are still too few people making the conscious effort to create it. At Charlotte FC, I assembled Major League Soccer's first-ever all-female photography team to shoot the club’s inaugural match and home opener, and continued hiring an all-female crew for every home opener from 2022 to 2026. My creative teams have been primarily women, alongside talented men, with the majority having diverse backgrounds and perspectives represented across the group. This approach is not about exclusion. It is about intention. I hire the most capable, driven, and collaborative people for the role, and I believe building strong teams means being thoughtful about considering everyone equally.
Supporting women in sports means doing more than saying the "right" things.
It means hiring them, paying them fairly, trusting them with responsibility, and making space for their voices. It means spending the time to mentor, advocate, and help open doors, whether that is a first opportunity or the next step in their career.
Charlotte FC's Home Opener Photography Teams
2022
Inaugural Home Opener
For Charlotte FC’s inaugural home opener, I built and led an all-female photography team trusted to capture one of the biggest moments in club history. Every photographer was hired because of her talent, experience and proven ability to deliver under pressure.
2023
Building on the Standard
We brought an all-female team back for our second home opener, continuing something that began naturally with the right people for the job. Each photographer brought a unique strength, from Blue Amber’s ultra-wide and fisheye work that makes a stadium feel full and exciting to Lizzy Otten’s eye for the rule of thirds, negative space and thoughtful composition.
2024
Trusting the Team
By our third year, this team had established a rhythm and a level of trust that allowed everyone to focus on what they did best. I knew I could count on each photographer to own her position, respond to the moment and produce work that felt distinct while still supporting the club’s larger visual story.
2025
Four Years of Delivering
In 2025, we marked our fourth consecutive home opener with an all-female photography team. It was never about exclusion or checking a box. It was about hiring good people who do great work. At high-impact moments, I choose people based on trust, talent, skill and their proven ability to deliver. These women earned their place and crushed it every year.
